The incident referred to as The Calamity happened on the night of July 26, 1986. During the event, it is estimated that about 2.4 billion people (half of the world’s population) vanished from Earth worldwide. 

It has proven difficult to gather a coherent account of events that happened on the night of July 26, since the testimony of the eyewitnesses differs wildly from each other. However, there are a few things that are consistent in all of them:

• a loud, crashing sound, resembling a thunder strike,

• warped perception of time,

• a huge gash in the sky, from which nothing was recognizable,

• and the disappearance of people in front of the survivors.

The missing persons are deemed deceased at the moment, since there are no clues at hand suggesting otherwise. 

After this incident, several gateways from hell opened on Earth in different locations, from which lesser demons and entities started pouring out and hunting the survivors. 

The Calamity inevitably sent the world into chaos and mayhem. Governments collapsed, manufacturing stopped, and armies were wiped out. The survivors have to face countless challenges every day, from providing food and medicine to fighting off otherworldly creatures with little to no knowledge about them.

The Unholy Project Inc. was founded by Jonathan Micah Palmer to study, classify, and eradicate demons roaming Earth. Mr. Palmer strongly believed that the Calamity was caused by, or directly linked to, the increasing numbers of demons escaping hell. The reason for this increase in the number of demons on earth is currently unknown. 

It is one of the top priorities of TUP Inc. to dispatch highly trained squads to the locations of gateways in order to close them. Depending on the type of entity they have to deal with, the size of the squad, their gear, and the method used are subject to change.
